There are various Wyverns that you can kill inside the Wyvern cave in Fossil Island. It means that all Fossil Island Wyverns can be killed in the same fashion regardless. However, some wyverns may require level 66 Slayer to kill including the talon, lower-tier spitting and long-tailed wyverns.
Considering all Fossil Island Wyverns can be killed, you may wonder which the Fossil Island wyverns is best to kill. Even though all Fossil Island wyverns are deemed worthy to kill, there may be the best Fossil Island Wyverns to kill. Let’s see our post below!
What is the Best Fossil Island Wyvern to Kill?
In this post, we’ll assume that the best Fossil Island wyvern to kill is Ancient wyverns. However, they are the strongest species of Wyvern. They have very high Attack, Defence and Hit Points which get them very powerful enemies for you.
Just like other Wyverns, Ancient wyverns actually require an elemental, mind, dragonfire or ancient wyvern shield to be killed, or you will suffer devastating damage from their unique icy breath. To kill them, level 66 Slayer is required. If not, you can eat a wild pie at 77 Slayer, though killing them may take a long time.
Here’s a list of recommended skills to kill Ancient Wyverns:
- Level Slayer: 82 required
- Level Attack: 80+
- Strength: 80+
- Defence: 80+
- Hitpoints: 80+
- Prayer: 43+ (Protect from Melee, 45 Mystic Might, 44 Eagle Eyes, and 70+ Piety)
- Magic: 75+
- Ranged: 80+
How to Get Wyvern Cave to Kill Ancient Wyvern?
As we’ve mentioned, Wyvern cave is located in Fossil Island. Sure, to get this location, you should focus on getting to Fossil Island in order to find Wyvern cave. Well, Wyvern cave can be found around Mushroom Forest, beneath a trapdoor which is located in the north-west section of the Fossil island.
In Mushroom Forest, there are numerous activities that allow you to train a variety of skills. You can also calcify fossils in the mycelium pool, kill Ancient Zygomites as part of a Zygomite Slayer task, plant teak and mahogany trees in the three tree patches in the south-east corner and track down herbivores throughout the Forest.
Additionally, you can also do a task to kill Wyvern if you have been assigned Fossil Island Wyverns as a slayer task.
In Fossil Island, there are two different wyvern caves: first, you can freele kill wyvern and the second one, you have been assigned a Slayer task of Fossil island wyverns first. The first cave can be found south of the Museum Camp and the task-only cave can be reached through the trap door found in the Mushroom Forest.
If you attempt to attack the wyverns in the northern cave without a Slayer task of Fossil Island, Weve will then stop you from doing this. So, if you want to kill wyverns, make sure to achieve a Fossil Island wyvern Slayer task.
Slayer Task of Fossil Island Wyverns
Fossil Island Wyverns can be mentioned as a Slayer monster that you can kill. Of course, there are some requirements that you have to notice before killing them, here are they:
- Level 70 Combat required
- Level 66 Slayer to kill required
- Completion of the quests Elemental Workshop and Bone Voyage to be asked as a slayer task
Wyverns frequently use the icy breath attack to deal large damage and reduce stats if a protective shield is not equipped. However, Elemental Shield, Dragonfire Shield, Mind Shield, Dragon Ward or Ancient Wyvern Shield are required in order to kill them.
Otherwise, the Anti-Dragon shield, antifire potions and Protect from Magic prayer cannot be used as a substitute for the shields. Therefore, using two handed weapons like Abyssal Bludgeon or Toxic Blowpipe is highly discouraged.
While offering protection from the effects of ice breath, only the Ancient wyvern shield provides complete protection and prevents the accompanying freezing effect, preventing both attacks and movements.
In this case, the Elemental Shield, Dragonfire Shield, Mind Shield and Dragonfire Ward will totally prevent the damage and stat reductions. They probably will drop Fossil Island fossils of various sizes. However, both caves have a Fossil Storage box by their respective entrances.
Aside from being hard to fight, Ancient Wyverns share their ability with Taloned Wyverns to use an unblockable Ranged attack which resembles a lighter coloured Water Blast. This attack actually ignores Protection prayers and hits around 10, although they will also miss. Both Ancient wyverns and Talone Wyverns also appear to use all Melee attack types. Of course, the highest defensive armour you can access is the best suited to use against them when fighting them.
